Save the Date!

The kindergartners are thrilled to announce that they only need to learn four more letters until they finish the Alef – Bet!  We will celebrate with a party and we would love for you to join us.

So please put this date on your calendar:  May 29, at 9:00 AM.

Invites will be emailed next week with more exciting details.

This week we discussed how after the Jewish people left Mitzrayim (Egypt), they traveled in the desert on their way to Har Sinai to receive the Torah, our precious gift from Hashem.  They were so excited that they counted the days.  We also count the days until the holiday of Shavuot the same way… although I’m not sure the Jews in the desert used unifex cubes and paper flowers to help them figure out the days and the weeks…. Oh well, at least the Hebrew words are the same.

We keep track by decorating Har Sinai with a flower for each day counted.

Aviv uses unifex cubes to calculate the weeks counted.

We also discussed the miracles the Jews experienced in the desert.  For example, they ate this heavenly food called “Man” (manna) which they collected each morning.

Since Hashem did not want them collecting food on Shabbat, they were given a double portion on Friday, and in case you were wondering, THAT is why we place two challahs on our Shabbat table.

Since we learned the letter Kuf for kiddush this week, it was a good time to take our Shabbat routine a step further and recite the kiddush over some real grape juice, and eat some real challah.

Our Shabbat kiddush.

Shabbat books are coming home this week.  Please return on Monday.
